Rosh Hashana 3:4-5
Rosh Hashana 3:4
The shofars used (in the Temple) on fast days come from male rams and are curved. Their mouths are coated in silver and the two trumpets are in the middle, between the shofars. The shofar blasts are short and the trumpet blasts are long because the mitzvah of the day is performed with trumpets.
Rosh Hashana 3:5
The procedure on Yom Kippur of a Jubilee year is the same as Rosh Hashana when it comes to how we blow the shofar and the blessings recited. Rabbi Yehuda says that on Rosh Hashana we blow with shofars from male rams and in Jubilee years we use shofars from ibexes.
