(יא) וַיְהִ֣י ׀ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֗ם וַיִּגְדַּ֤ל מֹשֶׁה֙ וַיֵּצֵ֣א אֶל־אֶחָ֔יו וַיַּ֖רְא בְּסִבְלֹתָ֑ם וַיַּרְא֙ אִ֣ישׁ מִצְרִ֔י מַכֶּ֥ה אִישׁ־עִבְרִ֖י מֵאֶחָֽיו׃ (יב) וַיִּ֤פֶן כֹּה֙ וָכֹ֔ה וַיַּ֖רְא כִּ֣י אֵ֣ין אִ֑ישׁ וַיַּךְ֙ אֶת־הַמִּצְרִ֔י וַֽיִּטְמְנֵ֖הוּ בַּחֽוֹל׃ (יג) וַיֵּצֵא֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשֵּׁנִ֔י וְהִנֵּ֛ה שְׁנֵֽי־אֲנָשִׁ֥ים עִבְרִ֖ים נִצִּ֑ים וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לָֽרָשָׁ֔ע לָ֥מָּה תַכֶּ֖ה רֵעֶֽךָ׃ (יד) וַ֠יֹּ֠אמֶר מִ֣י שָֽׂמְךָ֞ לְאִ֨ישׁ שַׂ֤ר וְשֹׁפֵט֙ עָלֵ֔ינוּ הַלְהׇרְגֵ֙נִי֙ אַתָּ֣ה אֹמֵ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָרַ֖גְתָּ אֶת־הַמִּצְרִ֑י וַיִּירָ֤א מֹשֶׁה֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר אָכֵ֖ן נוֹדַ֥ע הַדָּבָֽר׃ (טו) וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע פַּרְעֹה֙ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה וַיְבַקֵּ֖שׁ לַהֲרֹ֣ג אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיִּבְרַ֤ח מֹשֶׁה֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔ה וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב בְּאֶֽרֶץ־מִדְיָ֖ן וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב עַֽל־הַבְּאֵֽר׃ (טז) וּלְכֹהֵ֥ן מִדְיָ֖ן שֶׁ֣בַע בָּנ֑וֹת וַתָּבֹ֣אנָה וַתִּדְלֶ֗נָה וַתְּמַלֶּ֙אנָה֙ אֶת־הָ֣רְהָטִ֔ים לְהַשְׁק֖וֹת צֹ֥אן אֲבִיהֶֽן׃ (יז) וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ הָרֹעִ֖ים וַיְגָרְשׁ֑וּם וַיָּ֤קׇם מֹשֶׁה֙ וַיּ֣וֹשִׁעָ֔ן וַיַּ֖שְׁקְ אֶת־צֹאנָֽם׃ (יח) וַתָּבֹ֕אנָה אֶל־רְעוּאֵ֖ל אֲבִיהֶ֑ן וַיֹּ֕אמֶר מַדּ֛וּעַ מִהַרְתֶּ֥ן בֹּ֖א הַיּֽוֹם׃ (יט) וַתֹּאמַ֕רְןָ אִ֣ישׁ מִצְרִ֔י הִצִּילָ֖נוּ מִיַּ֣ד הָרֹעִ֑ים וְגַם־דָּלֹ֤ה דָלָה֙ לָ֔נוּ וַיַּ֖שְׁקְ אֶת־הַצֹּֽאן׃ (כ) וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־בְּנֹתָ֖יו וְאַיּ֑וֹ לָ֤מָּה זֶּה֙ עֲזַבְתֶּ֣ן אֶת־הָאִ֔ישׁ קִרְאֶ֥ן ל֖וֹ וְיֹ֥אכַל לָֽחֶם׃ (כא) וַיּ֥וֹאֶל מֹשֶׁ֖ה לָשֶׁ֣בֶת אֶת־הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיִּתֵּ֛ן אֶת־צִפֹּרָ֥ה בִתּ֖וֹ לְמֹשֶֽׁה׃ (כב) וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֔ן וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ גֵּרְשֹׁ֑ם כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר גֵּ֣ר הָיִ֔יתִי בְּאֶ֖רֶץ נׇכְרִיָּֽה׃ {פ}

(יא) וַהֲוָה בְּיוֹמַיָא הָאִנוּן וּרְבָא משֶׁה וּנְפַק לְוָת אַחוֹהִי וַחֲזָא בְּפָלְחַנְהוֹן וַחֲזָא גְבַר מִצְרִי מָחֵי לִגְבַר יְהוּדִי מֵאַחוֹהִי: (יב) וְאִתְפְּנֵי לְכָא וּלְכָא וַחֲזָא אֲרֵי לֵית גַבְרָא וּמְחָא יָת מִצְרָאָה וְטַמְרֵהּ בְּחָלָא: (יג) וּנְפַק בְּיוֹמָא תִנְיָנָא וְהָא תְּרֵין גֻבְרִין יְהוּדָאִין נָצָן וַאֲמַר לְחַיָבָא לְמָא אַתְּ מָחֵי לְחַבְרָךְ: (יד) וַאֲמַר מָן שַׁוְיָךְ לִגְבַר רַב וְדַיָן עֲלָנָא הַלְמִקְטְלִי אַתְּ אָמַר כְּמָא דִקְטַלְתָּ יָת מִצְרָאָה וּדְחִיל משֶׁה וַאֲמַר בְּקוּשְׁטָא אִתְיְדַע פִּתְגָמָא: (טו) וּשְׁמַע פַּרְעֹה יָת פִּתְגָמָא הָדֵין וּבְעָא לְמִקְטַל יָת משֶׁה וַעֲרַק משֶׁה מִן קֳדָם פַּרְעֹה וִיתֵיב בְּאַרְעָא דְמִדְיָן וִיתֵיב עַל בֵּירָא: (טז) וּלְרַבָּא דְמִדְיָן שְׁבַע בְּנָן וְאָתָאָה וּדְלָאָה וּמְלָאָה יָת רְהָטַיָא לְאַשְׁקָאָה עֲנָא דַאֲבוּהֵן: (יז) וַאֲתוֹ רָעַיָא וּטְרָדוּנוּן וְקָם משֶׁה וּפְרָקִנוּן וְאַשְׁקֵי יָת עַנְהֵן: (יח) וַאֲתָאָה לְוַת רְעוּאֵל אֲבוּהֵן וַאֲמַר מָה דֵין אוֹחִיתוּן לְמֵיתֵי יוֹמָא דֵין: (יט) וַאֲמָרָא גַבְרָא מִצְרָאָה שֵׁזְבָנָא מִיַד רָעַיָא וְאַף מִדְלָא דְלָא לָנָא וְאַשְׁקֵי יָת עָנָא: (כ) וַאֲמַר לִבְנָתֵיהּ וְאָן הוּא לְמָא דְנַן שְׁבַקְתִּין יָת גַבְרָא קְרַן לֵהּ וְיֵכוּל לַחְמָא: (כא) וּצְבִי משֶׁה לְמִיתַב עִם גַבְרָא וִיהַב יָת צִפּוֹרָה בְרַתֵּהּ לְמשֶׁה: (כב) וִילִדַת בַּר וּקְרָא יָת שְׁמֵהּ גֵרְשֹׁם אֲרֵי אֲמַר דַיָר הֲוֵיתִי בְּאַרַע נוּכְרָאָה:

11. It happened in those days that Moshe grew up. He went out to his brethren and he saw their labor.[1] He saw an Egyptian striking a Jewish man from his brethren. 12. He turned this way and that. He saw there was no man and he smote the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13. He went out the next day and behold, two Jewish men fighting. He said to the guilty one,[2] “Why do you strike your fellow?” 14. He said, “Who appointed you officer and judge over us? Do you intend to kill me like you killed the Egyptian?” Moshe was afraid. He said, “So the matter has become known! 15. Pharaoh heard of this matter and he sought to kill Moshe. Moshe fled from before Pharaoh. He settled in the land of Midian and he sat beside a well. 16. The chief[3] of Midian had seven daughters. They came, they drew water, and they filled the troughs to water their father’s sheep. 17. Shepherds came and drove them away. Moshe arose and saved them, and he watered their sheep. 18. They came to their father Reuel. He said, “How have you come back so quickly today?” 19. They said, “An Egyptian man saved us from the hand of the shepherds. He also drew water for us and watered the flock.” 20. He said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why is it you left the man? Call him and let him eat bread.” 21. Moshe agreed to stay with the man, and he gave his daughter Tzipporah to Moshe. 22. She delivered a son and he called his name Gershom, because he said, “I was a traveler in a foreign land.”

(כג) וַיְהִי֩ בַיָּמִ֨ים הָֽרַבִּ֜ים הָהֵ֗ם וַיָּ֙מׇת֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם וַיֵּאָנְח֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מִן־הָעֲבֹדָ֖ה וַיִּזְעָ֑קוּ וַתַּ֧עַל שַׁוְעָתָ֛ם אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים מִן־הָעֲבֹדָֽה׃ (כד) וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶת־נַאֲקָתָ֑ם וַיִּזְכֹּ֤ר אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־בְּרִית֔וֹ אֶת־אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶת־יִצְחָ֥ק וְאֶֽת־יַעֲקֹֽב׃ (כה) וַיַּ֥רְא אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֵּ֖דַע אֱלֹהִֽים׃ {ס}

(כג) וַהֲוָה בְּיוֹמַיָא סַגִיאַיָא הָאִנוּן וּמִית מַלְכָּא דְמִצְרַיִם וְאִתְנָחוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִן פָּלְחָנָא דַהֲוָה קְשֵׁי עֲלֵיהוֹן וּזְעִיקוּ וּסְלֵיקָת קְבֶלְתְּהוֹן לָקֳדָם יְיָ מִן פָּלְחָנָא: (כד) וּשְׁמִיעַ קֳדָם יְיָ יָת קְבֶלְתְּהוֹן וּדְכִיר יְיָ יָת קַיָמֵהּ דְעִם אַבְרָהָם דְעִם יִצְחָק וּדְעִם יַעֲקֹב: (כה) וּגְלִי קְדָם יְיָ שִׁעְבּוּדָא דִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַאֲמַר בְּמֵימְרֵהּ לְמִפְרַקְהוֹן יְיָ:

23. It happened in those many days that the king of Egypt died. The children of Israel sighed from the work that was heavy upon them and cried out. Their cry from the servitude ascended to before Hashem. 24. Their groaning was heard before Hashem and Hashem remembers His covenant with Avraham, with Yitzchak and with Yaakov. 25. The servitude of the children of Israel was revealed before Hashem and Hashem said in His word to redeem them.[4]
