#14: Bathing for Shabbat
- The Shulchan Aruch and Rema (O.C. 260:1) write that there is a mitzvah to bathe (or shower) on Friday in honor of Shabbat. In addition, they write that one should wash one’s body as well as one’s hair. If this is too difficult for whatever reason, one may suffice with washing the hands, face, and feet.
- The Mishnah Berurah (260:2) writes that the mitzvah applies to both men and women. He adds (260:5) that although one should not bathe too close to Shabbat, one should preferably do so on Friday rather than Thursday so that it is clear one is bathing in honor of Shabbat.
