3,500. Redeeming Second Tithe That Was Rendered Unclean in Jerusalem
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 2:11
If produce whose labors have not been completed is taken through Jerusalem and removed, its second tithe may be redeemed outside of Jerusalem; this includes such things as grapes being taking to the wine vat and figs being taken to dry. Similarly, second tithe from doubtfully tithed produce may be redeemed outside of Jerusalem even if its labors have been completed and it has been brought through Jerusalem.
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 2:12
Let’s say that second tithe produce that was rendered unclean in Jerusalem was redeemed. If it was rendered unclean through contact with a second-degree form of impurity, it may not be removed from Jerusalem; it must be eaten there. If it was rendered unclean through contact with a first-degree form of impurity, or if it was rendered unclean outside of Jerusalem even through contact with a second-degree form of impurity, it may be redeemed and eaten anywhere. This is the case even though it was brought into Jerusalem.
