#47: Accepting Shabbat when Lighting Candles (Part 3)
- Even according to Ashkenazic custom that one should accept Shabbat when lighting candles, other household members are not obligated to accept Shabbat with the wife/mother lighting candles (Rema 263:10).
- Therefore, if one lit candles and realized that she forgot to perform some last-minute preparation that is forbidden on Shabbat, she may ask a child or other household member to do so for her, provided they have not yet accepted Shabbat themselves. However, other family members should still make sure to accept Shabbat soon after candle lighting to fulfill the mitzvah of adding to Shabbat (to be discussed next week).
