3,508. Second Tithe That Has Gone Bad

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 3:11

When it comes to second tithe, one may only eat what is normally eaten, drink what is normally drunk and anoint with what one normally anoints. One may not anoint with wine or vinegar but one may anoint with oil. One may not squeeze fruit for its juice except for olives and grapes. We don’t mix spices with oil but we do with wine. One need not eat moldy bread or oil that has gone bad. Rather, once something is no longer suitable for human consumption, its sanctity goes away.

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 3:12

Whatever non-kohanim are permitted to eat from terumah may also be eaten from second tithe like secular produce. If dregs of second tithe are put into water, the first volume of drink mixed from it is prohibited like second tithe and the second is permitted like secular produce. When it comes to the second tithe of demai, even the first volume of drink is permitted.
