3,509. Second Tithe That Is Improved

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 3:13

If honey or spices fall into second tithe wine and improve its taste, the extent of the improvement must be calculated. (This will be explained IY”H in tomorrow’s halachos.) Similarly, if fish was cooked with second tithe leeks and the taste was improved, the extent of the improvement must be calculated.

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 3:14

If a dough made from second tithe flour was baked (using secular wood as fuel) and improved, the improvement is credited to the second tithe. The general rule is that when the improvement is apparent and the volume increases, the extent of the improvement must be calculated. If the volume doesn’t increase, the improvement is credited exclusively to the second tithe. If the improvement isn’t apparent, it is credited exclusively to the second tithe even if the volume increases.
