#65: Listening to Kiddush Recited by Others (Part 3)
- Any man or woman who has already fulfilled the mitzvah of Kiddush themselves may still recite Kiddush again on Friday night on behalf of any other man or woman who has not yet fulfilled the mitzvah. However, this should only be done if the one who has not yet fulfilled the mitzvah is unable to recite it for some reason. If that person is capable of reciting the Kiddush themselves, it is preferable that he or she do so (Shulchan Aruch 273:4).
- In any case where one who recited Kiddush on behalf of another does not wish to drink the wine or grape juice, the listener fulfilling the mitzvah may drink it instead (the amount to be drunk will be discussed in future postings) (Shulchan Aruch 271:14).
