3,512. Not Using Second Tithe as a Weight

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 3:19

We may not use second tithe as a weight (in a balance scale), not even for gold coins. This is true even of the coins to which the sanctity of other produce will be transferred. This law was enacted out of concern that one might balance his scales using second tithe and the weight of the produce will fall short. Then, when he uses them to weigh the coins to which the sanctity of other second tithe produce will be transferred, he will redeem the produce for less than it’s actually worth.

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 3:20

If brothers divide inherited second tithe produce, they may not weigh them against one another. Similarly, coins with the sanctity of second tithe may not be weighed against one another. These coins likewise may not be sold, exchanged or given as a deposit. One also may not use them to impress a banker, nor may one lend them in order to appear prosperous. One may, however, lend them to keep them from rusting.
