#90: Kiddush for Shabbat Day (Part 2)
- We mentioned yesterday that women may also not eat after reciting Shacharit before Kiddush. According to most poskim, women who usually only recite a small paragraph of tefillah may not eat or drink after that point before reciting Kiddush (see Shemirat Shabbat K’hilchatah 51:13 for more details).
- If one is unable to recite Kiddush for some reason and one needs to drink or eat, there is room for leniency on Shabbat day (since the obligation for Kiddush is rabbinic in origin). This is especially true for women, since some Rishonim rule leniently that women may always eat or drink on Shabbat day. Thus, one who is sick, weak or extremely thirsty after walking outside in the hot sun and is unable to find any drinks on which to recite Kiddush may eat and or drink. If possible, drinking water is preferred to other drinks or food.
