3,521. Transferring Sanctity When You're About to Be Robbed (Really!)
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 4:12
Let’s say that someone is traveling on the road when he’s approached by a mugger looking to steal his money. If it’s possible for him to save his money – even though it will take great effort – he can use it to redeem second tithe that he has at home. If there’s no way he can save his money and he declares that the sanctity of produce he has at home is transferred to it, he hasn’t accomplished anything.
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 4:13
If someone puts money aside in order to transfer second tithe sanctity to it, he may redeem produce on it under the assumption that the money is still in his possession. If he finds that the money is gone, there is reason to be concerned about the produce that he already redeemed using that money.
