#134: Reciting 100 Brachot on Shabbat (Part 1)
- According to halacha, one should try to recite one hundred berachot every day (Menachot 43b; Shulchan Aruch, O.C. 46:2). Authorities differ as to whether this obligation applies to women or not.
- On Shabbat, it is more difficult to recite one hundred berachot than during the week, since the Shemoneh Esrei of Shabbat contains less berachot. For this reason, the Shulchan Aruch (O.C. 290:1) suggests eating additional fruits and snacks on Shabbat to successfully reach one hundred berachot. Those who are present for the Torah reading and Haftara in shul can also add more berachot simply by reciting “Amen” to the berachot recited on the Torah (Shulchan Aruch, O.C. 284:3).
