#139: Timing of Seudah Shelishit (Part 1)

  1. Ideally, men, and women who recite Minchah on a regular basis, should recite Minchah first and then eat Seudah Shelishit afterward. The reason is to ensure that one davens before eating a meal. However, it is permitted to switch the order if needed, since some are lenient about this (Rema, O.C. 291:2 and Mishnah Berurah 232:26)
  2. One who began eating bread for Seudah Shelishit before sunset may continue eating lechatchilah after sunset, and even after nightfall (Shulchan Aruch, O.C. 299:1). By contrast, one who does not eat bread at Seudah Shelishit may not continue eating after sunset, due to the prohibition to eat before reciting havdalah (to be discussed in future posts).
