3,527. Not Adding a Fifth

If a woman redeems second tithe that she separated, she need not add a fifth. Our oral tradition teaches that "If a man redeems his tithes" (Leviticus 27:31) excludes women. Similarly, if a man redeems second tithe money for himself, he must add a fifth.

When someone redeems second tithe and adds a fifth, and then he redeems the money, he must add another fifth. This second fifth is based on the principal alone; one need not add a fifth of the first fifth.
