3,533. Changing Second Tithe Money

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 5:14

If someone exchanges a sela of second tithe money, he may not change it all for copper coins; this is the case both inside and outside of Jerusalem. Rather, he should change it for a shekel in silver coins and a shekel in copper.

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 5:15

One is permitted to transfer the sanctity of second tithe money along with second tithe produce to money so long as the produce is worth less than a dinar. If it’s worth a dinar, its sanctity may not be transferred along with that of money; it must be transferred by itself. For example, if someone had a dinar’s worth of produce and three dinars of second tithe money, he may not transfer all the sanctity to a sela. If he has a half a dinar of produce and a half a dinar of money, then he may transfer all the sanctity to one dinar.
