3,539. Produce Found Between Second Tithe and Terumah
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 6:11
Let’s say that money is found in a box that was used for both secular money and second tithe money. If most people put second tithe money in the box, the money found is assumed to be second tithe; if most people put secular money in the box, the money found is assumed to be secular. If the proportion is 50/50, the money found is assumed to be secular.
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 6:12
If produce is found between second tithe produce and terumah, it is counted as part of the produce to which it’s closest; if it’s exactly in the middle, it must be treated according to the stringencies of both. Therefore, like terumah, it is prohibited to non-kohanim, the one who eats it must first wash his hands, and one who was purified on that day must wait until sundown to eat it. Like second tithe, one may not eat it in a state of bereavement and it must be brought to Jerusalem. Similar rules apply to coins that are found between secular coins and second tithe coins.
