3,547. Using Second Tithe Money for Terumah, Peace Offerings
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 7:11
Second tithe money may not be used to buy terumah because this would limit both: Terumah may only be eaten by kohanim the night after purifying themselves, but it may be eaten by the bereaved and it may be eaten in any location. Second tithe, however, may be eaten by non-kohanim and by those who purified themselves that same day, but it may not be eaten by the bereaved and it must be eaten in Jerusalem. Therefore, one would be limiting both the second tithe and the terumah.
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 7:12
A domesticated animal for a peace offering may be purchased using second tithe money because non-kohanim may eat peace offerings. Originally, people would buy animals with second tithe money to eat as secular meat and not to offer on the altar. Therefore, it was established that one could only use second tithe money to buy domesticated animals for use as peace offerings. One may, however, use second tithe money to buy kosher wild animals and birds, which may not be brought as peace offerings.
