3,607. Bringing Birds with First Fruits

Hilchos Bikkurim 3:8

If someone brings first fruits in a metal vessel, the kohein takes the first fruits and returns the vessel to its owner. If he brings them in something like a basket of reeds or grass, the kohein receives both the first fruits and the basket. If the first fruits are rendered ritually unclean, the basket is not given to the kohanim.

Hilchos Bikkurim 3:9

When first fruits were brought, they also brought pigeons and doves in their hands. They would also hang pigeons and doves from the sides of the baskets in order to decorate the first fruits. The birds on the baskets were for burnt offerings and the ones in their hands were gifts for the kohanim.
