3,650. Who Is Trusted Regarding Challah?
Hilchos Bikkurim 8:14
If someone buys bread from an unlearned baker in Syria (i.e., lands annexed by Israel) and the baker says that he took challah, the buyer need not take challah out of doubt. Just like the Jews in Israel weren’t suspected when it came to terumah gedolah, the Jews in Syria weren’t suspected when it came to challah.
Hilchos Bikkurim 8:15
If someone buys bread from a baker outside of Israel, he must take challah out of doubt. However, if one buys from a private individual, he need not take challah out of doubt. It goes without saying that this is the case when one person is another’s guest.
