3,829. Not Building the Temple at Night
Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 1:11
The optimum way to fulfill the mitzvah (of building the Temple) is to strengthen the building and exalt it according to the ability of the community, as per Ezra 9:9: “to elevate the House of our God.” They must make it as beautiful as they are able, going so far as plating it with gold and amplifying its aspects if this is possible.
Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 1:12
The Temple may not be built at night, as per Numbers 9:15: “on the day they erected the Tabernacle.” The Sages infer from this that the Temple must be built by day and not by night. We must be involved with the Temple’s construction from dawn until the stars come out. Everyone must be involved in the construction, contributing both physically and financially. This applies both to men and to women, as was the case with the construction of the Tabernacle in the wilderness. However, children may not be taken from their (Torah) studies for this reason. Building the Temple does not take priority over observing yom tov.
