3,838. The Base of the Altar
Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 2:9
A red line was tied around the middle of the altar six handbreadths below the soveiv. This divided between the blood that would be sprinkled on the upper part of the altar and that to be sprinkled on the lower part of the altar. The distance from the ground to the surface where the woodpile was arranged was therefore nine cubits minus one handbreadth.
Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 2:10
The soveiv (the catwalk) surrounded the altar on all four sides, but the base didn’t. The base followed the entirety of the north and west sides of the altar, plus one cubit each on the south and east sides. Accordingly, there was no base on the southeast corner of the altar.
