3,917. A Kohein's Own Offering
Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 4:7
When a kohein has an offering of his own to bring, he can come to the Temple and offer it any day he wishes, as per Deut. 18:6-7: “He shall come with the desire of his soul…and serve.” He may even offer his own sin offering or guilt offering and effect atonement for himself. If he does, he also receives the animal’s hide. He may also give his offering to any kohein he likes to sacrifice it. In such a case, the kohein to whom he gave it gets the hide and a share of the offering.
Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 4:8
If the kohein who brings the offering has a disqualifying blemish (and therefore cannot serve), he gives his offering to the watch on duty that week and they receive the hide. If he was so old or sick that it would be difficult for him to serve, he can give the offering to any kohein he wishes, but the hide and the share of the offering go to the watch on duty that week. If he is totally unable to serve, the offering is eaten completely by the watch on duty.
