3,945. The "Doctor" of the Kohanim
Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 7:13
Every thirty days, the price for wine and flour was set with the official in charge of libations. If the price goes up, he must supply them based on the price that was originally set. If the price goes down, he must supply them based on the lower price. The profit the Temple makes on these variations is called the excess of the libations and it is used to buy burnt offerings for when the altar is otherwise free. Birds are not used for these offerings, because there are no communal offerings of birds.
Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 7:14
Kohanim stand barefoot on the Temple’s stone floor, they eat a lot of meat and they only wear a single cloak while performing the service, with the result that they are prone to digestive problems. There is therefore an official whose job is to examine them and heal their ailments. This official and his staff are available at all times.
