4,026. Blemishes That Can Appear Anywhere on the Body

Four kinds of blemish can appear anywhere on the body: (1) dry patches of any size. This is the garav of Leviticus 21:20; (2) a growth that has a bone in it. This is the yabeles of Leviticus 22:22; (3) a boil like those of the Egyptian plague in any size. This kind of boil is hard and ugly. This is the yalefes of Leviticus 21:20.

(4) If there is a groove in any bone that can be discerned, it’s a blemish. This is included in the charutz of Leviticus 22:22. Ribs are not bones that can be discerned.
