The Three Weeks - Engagement

QUESTION: May one get engaged during the Three Weeks?

ANSWER: Yes, one may get engaged throughout the entire Three Weeks including Tisha B’Av. Prior to Rosh Chodesh Av (excluding the fast of 17 Tamuz), a formal meal may be served as well. From Rosh Chodesh Av until Erev Tisha B’Av, only refreshments such as cakes and beverages may be provided (Shulchan Aruch OC 551:2 and Mishna Berura ibid. 16).
